10 TV Shows Worth the Binge (Netflix Edition)

Is there anything better than getting home from a long, productive day and changing into some comfy clothes, diving onto the sofa and making your way through a good few episodes of your latest Netflix obsession before bed? The answer is no. Personally, I love being given suggestions on what I can binge on next, so I thought I’d let you in on some of the television shows I have enjoyed the most on Netflix – all of which I would watch straight through again. I don’t have one genre that I stick to when it comes to television (or music or movies for that matter), instead I like a good mish-mash of funny, scary, intelligent and downright dumb. Nevertheless, here’s hoping at least one suits you guys!

1. Friends

That heart-warming show that we all know and love – if you’ve never watched Friends, get out. You’re barred from my blog, indefinitely. This is my go-to show for a bad mood as it cheers me up within minutes. No matter how many times I watch each episode, I will always laugh out loud and not just because there’s a laughing track over the top attempting to make me do so *cough* Big Bang Theory *cough*.

2. Peaky Blinders

This is my all-time favourite television show. Everything that goes into Peaky is masterful – the acting, the writing, the music – everything comes together to create an intense atmosphere and intelligent piece of art that you just can’t get enough of. If you haven’t yet, give it a go and get lost in the criminal lives of the Shelby family and their gang, the Peaky Blinders, in the aftermath of the Great War. If that doesn’t do it for you…Cillian Murphy. That is all.

3. Power

I started watching Power one day because I’d had it recommended to be by so many people and guess what? They were right! This show portrays the glamour and grunge of New York life through James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick – gang leader amidst a lucrative drug empire by day and nightclub owner by night. This show is suspenseful, stylish and downright sexy.

4. The Client List

Speaking of sexy…it doesn’t get much hotter than this. When Jennifer Love Hewitt’s husband abandons her and her two kids, she picks up a job at a seemingly legitimate spa to diminish some of the debt he has left them in. However, she faces a moral battle as she must decide what services she is willing to provide in order to provide for her two children. I’m just about finished the second season of this programme and am absolutely gutted that it won’t be returning for a third.

5. The Vampire Diaries

We all had that show we watched week in and week out throughout high school and yearned for it on its season breaks. Well, this was that show for me and my friends. If chick-flick, high school romance mixed with some mythological creatures is your kind of thing, get watching!

6. Gossip Girl

Another classic! Follow “the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite” and laugh, cry and cringe at their friendships, romantic entanglements, career paths and criminal activity along the way. The characters of Gossip Girl will become your best friends and worst enemies as you watch them progress from high school to adult life.

7. Miranda

This one is gonna be a bit of a marmite suggestion – 50% of my friends love this show and the other half loathe it. I, myself, cannot get enough of comedian Miranda Hart and her awkward, cringe-worthy and horrifically relatable show. If you like fart jokes, childish humour and awkward social situations, Miranda is for you!

8. Fresh Meat

If you’ve ever been to university (and, in particular, stayed in university accommodation), you need to watch this programme. Follow the ups and downs of six misfit students – thrown together in university housing – and relate to the dysfunctional relationships, drunken antics and study stress.

9. The Great British Bake Off

WARNING – munch-inducing, it is strongly recommended you do not watch this programme while hungry or without adequate sustenance to hand. It is, however, recommended that you watch this programme if you have any interest in baking/cooking or are looking for a heart-warming, jovial show to wind down with. I recently started re-watching them all with my flatmate (who had not seen any of the original series) and have fallen in love with the programme all over again.

10. The Only Way Is Essex

Yes, judge me all you like. I can take it. Despite being one of the most mind-numbing TV programmes I have ever watched, TOWIE is also my ultimate guilty pleasure. Nothing distracts you from your own problems more than laughing at the ridiculous drama of Essex’s finest. If you’re like me, you might even find yourself falling in love with a few of them along the way.

I hope at least one or two of these suggestions sticks out for someone! Let me know what you think in the comments below. Happy bingeing!

I watched Miranda last year for the first time and I LOVED it, I thought it’s absolutely hilarious! I also love Friends, I agree, it always cheers me up too. I watched Gossip Girl a couple of years ago for the first time but I definitely want to watch it again! Great list x

    Friends and Gossip Girls 🙌🏼
I’m trying to decide if I should watch TOWIE, I saw a clip on YouTube of Megan McKenna, she’s hilarious. If she’s still on it, I’ll watch.
