My morning routine differs depending on what I plan to do that day. Going to work? Meeting a friend? Lazing about and generally impersonating a sloth for the day? – I’ve got a routine for every occasion! Since I’m still keeping up the pretence for you folks that I’m a well-rounded, perpetually motivated individual, let’s start with my work routine, shall we?
Step 1: Get Up and Make Bed Immediately
The very first thing I do – when I eventually take my alarm off snooze and decide it’s time to get myself ready for the day – is jump (rise like a zombie) up and make my bed. I know that if I make my bed immediately, I won’t crawl back into it and attempt to get those precious ‘5 more minutes’.
Step 2: Make Lunch
I usually take a fresh bean and rice salad for my lunch each day so I prefer to make this in the morning, rather than the night before. Making it first is another time-saving technique – if a slightly psychological one – as I like to take my time after my shower and not feel rushed out of the door. Therefore, getting the more important things done first (i.e. all things food) means I can be sure they are complete.
Step 3: Turn on Kettle and Prepare Coffee Mug
I am not like my mother and do not have a self-proclaimed ‘Asbestos Mouth’ – I cannot chug down a cup of coffee immediately after it has been poured. Therefore, another time-saving technique I use each morning is to get the kettle boiling and have my coffee mug prepared for pouring before I go in the shower, giving it time to cool before I actually drink it.
Step 4: Shower and Get Dressed
I would hope this step is pretty self-explanatory. However, one key thing to note is that I lay out my outfit the night before – yet another of India’s time-saving techniques! – as I know I will faff around in the morning, trying on top after top and wasting time.
Step 5: Skincare (and Contact Lenses)
If I am wearing my contact lenses that day, I will put these in before I carry out my skincare routine, ensuring I don’t throw myself into a world of pain by transferring toner or moisturiser into my eyeball. Side Note – If you’d be interested in reading about my skincare routine, let me know in the comments below!
Step 6: Style Hair
I don’t wear make-up to work as I like to let my skin breathe throughout the week and smother it only for social events/if I just feel like it. This means I can power straight on to styling my hair – granted, for working in a coffee shop, this usually involves a quick brush and chuck up into a ponytail.
Step 7: Me Time
This is my favourite step. I’m all ready to go (bar my dental hygiene) so I get to sit on my beautifully-made bed, drink my coffee, go through my social media and catch up on my YouTube subscriptions. I usually get up an hour and half before I have to leave my flat specifically for this step. I hate rushing in the morning – it instantly puts me in a bad/stressy mood and impacts on the rest of my day. Therefore, I get up obscenely early in order to give myself this much-needed me time before I let the world in for the day.
Step 8: Brush Teeth
You know the drill.
Step 9: Leave
The time has come, my friends.
So that’s it – my morning routine for work! Let me know what you think in the comments below! Does your morning routine differ a lot from mine or is it very similar? If you want to see any other form of routine of mine, please let me know.
Hello, thank you for this post!
I used to wake up very early to do a ‘Miracle Morning’ and have that ‘me time’ you are talking about. But lately I’ve been feeling very tired (and a bit lazy) so even though I love mornings my Morning routine for work has been really hard/painful: usually struggling to get up, trying to prepare lunch/breakfast (make things boil, heat up) while I brush my teeth and go to the shower, then rushing to get dressed, getting by bag packed then taking a bit of time to eat before leaving and … obviously getting late to work!
But you post kinda motivated me to try out everything again and take more time in the morning to be at peace and feel less stressed. Thank you for that!

Ouuu I love that you make your bed lol my friends always try to make me feel like I’m weird cause it’s not “necessary” but it’s habit and it’s nice to come home to a well made bed. Depends on how I feel I’d make lunch in the morning but I get what you mean with not feeling rushed by making it first. Thanks for sharing your routine! 💕
